Nationalism, anti-immigration, voted Trump, clown world, we're Rome before the fall, shitlibbery is a cancer and the moral decay and decadence while doesn't bother me at an individual level is horrific when paraded and celebrated to the degree it is today, I don't care about abortion or gay marriage except as symptoms of societal decline (generally pro-choice and pro-gay marriage though, only find it hard to take either position now because of the association with shitlibs)

Today, polling shows the highest level of support for free trade agreements and lowest for tariffs than ever before. Unions are dying and even young leftists put little focus on trade unionism. The "socialists" of our time do not want government ownership of the means of production and go out of their way to say they aren't associated with the command-style economies of the old eastern bloc. They want Denmark, a market-oriented country with free trade and taxation that supports a social safety net. That's a far cry from the leftist defense and sympathy for the USSR back in the olden days or even the labor movements of the past.

I'd argue that conservatives won on policing and sentencing. Modern policing (acceptance of lots of police power and constant surveillance), sentencing (murderers get big sentences and even life; repeat offenders treated more harshly; little thought to rehabilitation), and the criminal justice system resembles more closely the ideas espoused by conservatives in the early 20th century through the 70's than it does the reformers/liberals of those times.

I could go on and on with the topics we both mentioned. On the whole I'd say certain segments of the conservative movement have shaped american post-ww2 American policy and that it'd be wrong to argue that they are a perennial loser.

The prominent Virginian Robert Lewis Dabney also came around to thinking emigration would be the best, or only, option under a Yankee government. He had initially been hesitant on the matter, but by January 1866 Dabney was plainly interested in leaving the South and recognized a growing interest within the state. He saw “the steady and extensive leavening of the mind of our people, with the desire for emigration.” He was not convinced that Mexico would be the optimal location since it was "too near the Yankees" and the imperial government was not completely established. Brazil, on the other hand, with its stable monarchy and slave plantatione conomy, seemed more promising to him. Dabney had a point. Brazil turned out to be the second-biggest destiniation for southern migration and played a significant role in expanding the scope of colonization under the direction of former top Confederate officials.

White southern migrants also made their way to Honduras, Venezuela and even to Egypt after the Civil War.
