agree. some other possible problems:
- unnecessarily rigorous demands on players. gotta practice at the crack of dawn. have to be the right type of leader / teammate, regardless of your personality (i think this probably really grated on spielman). need to know 100% of playbook to get in at all. need to be the exact weight/strength level before you can play. but, oh yeah, disregard the above if youre one of frost's favorites (jurgens, AM, etc.)
- way too much optionality in offense. apparently those shitty swing passes are a read that qb can choose over the called run play. of course defenses will stack the box/ play man on the outside to make you throw them. defense can completely determine the offenses identity

I was impressed with Nebraska's offense against Ohio State
I was not impressed with that shitty D
I was shocked at their performance against Minnesota

Just to inject some Kool Aid:
65%+ of the 2017/2018 classes aren't on the team anymore and they got almost no starters from them. By the time the 2019/2020 classes are ready to contribute there should be significant improvement. They aren't that far off from winning (12 one-score losses under Frost) and better special teams and a more experience, less error-prone team will make the difference between winning and losing close games.
Both lines are big, physical lines that don't get pushed around anymore and are filled with good young players including three FR OL starters that were elite recruits.
Defense has improved significantly. They are very good against the run and they have a lot of good young players.
They have the best kicker in the Big 10 and if their punter doesn't get hurt again then special teams could flip from something that costs them multiple one-score games a year to a strength.
They have a lot of talent with potential on the offensive side that are either incoming or didn't play this year because of injuries or were learning the offense. I think Fidone is going to be a huge difference maker.

Agreed. Power spread team with a down-hill running game, mobile QB, and a matchup nightmare TE should be the vision. It seems like Omaha is putting out these freak TEs on an annual basis now and they should take advantage.
Here is a great article that explains why this should be the model going forward. Basically try and do what Iowa State does with better recruiting.

Agreed, I have noticed the same phenomenon with USC. Their NC teams had a lot of 3 star guys they wouldn’t have even recruited in the latter part of the dynasty run when things started to fall apart.
IDK if it is intentional or not (may just be because of Covid) but the regional nature of this years recruiting class is a huge step in the right direction IMO. Those kids are more likely to stick around and then you cherry pick the right pieces nationally for positions like QB, edge rusher etc that will never consistently be in your backyard.

this confirms what i've thought for about 15 years: the outside zone handoff out of the shotgun is GARBAGE. you have to have track star running backs, you aren't getting any +1 advantage in the box bc 1) nobody is having their backside end chase it anymore, so that zone read garbage isn't working and 2) the angles and timing make an RPO off of it very hard. dude points out that it can still work well out of the pistol, but that disrupts the angles for the RPO. coastal carolina seems to have solved this issue by having the qb in the pistol, one back on his hip, and one behind him (tbf meyer and mullen did some of this in 2008). this lets you reap the benefits of a smaller line by running outside zone with the deep back, plus do power/inside zone rpo stuff with the offset back. additionally, you can do all sorts of triple/counter/lead options with this two back setup, that you're blocking with outside zone concepts. it only gives you 2wr and a flexed tight end, but if the tight end is athletic enough (which coastal's was) it's not really an issue re: passing. for fuck's sake they had a true freshman triple option qb averaging 300 yards a game.
i was pissed we were subjected to the outside zone shotgun handoff garbage in the tim beck era, and now we're reliving it in the frost era. he thinks this is 2011 and there are DCs stupid enough to chase their tiny RBs from the back end. utter trash
