I am ignoring the news. Kojima has proven himself a genius time and again. First of all he's a genius of game design/marketing - the MGS are basically liberal arts/boss fight extravaganzas disguised for marketing purposes as stealth games. This causes them to sell like 7x more than they otherwise would. The "stealth" part for the first hour or so satisfies legions Jocks/Scumbags/Idiots, while the rest of the game plays to the tastes of Losers and perhaps some Nerds who are the core demo of video games.
Second of all, he's impossibly prescient in the thematic emphasis that his games have. MGS1 was all about genetics, genetic destiny, and determinism, foretelling the era of ITE/job interviews/Genotype/phenotype/Clique Law. MGS2 was all about Memes before "memes" were "a thing" and touches heavily on censorship/gaslighting like we have with the MSM nowadays. MGS3 was about how the Times make the Man, or something. MGS4 was about the war economy that ensued after 9/11 and the growth of AI. He basically starts talking about things YEARS before anyone else does.
Anyway, he's putting out something NEW whereas others just choose to either:
—make the same game over and over and over again for autists who somehow don't realise it
—Make No Games because they know it'll just be the same game as before (Rockstar/GTA, Valve)
—Make Bad Games (The entire Gamecube library and anything associated with it)

Ever notice how when something is kind of lame/sucks, people avoid using the word that describes it?
For instance, a VIDEO GAME becomes an "AAA title."
A BACHELOR OF ARTS IN POLITICAL SCIENCE becomes a, "BA, [no major listed], [University name]
The autism or whatever is striking. What are AA games? No one wants to admit that a game is "AA" and "gamers" get pissed if their favourite game that they haven't yet played gets less than a 9.5/10, it's as bad as Marvel movies.
