-Doom has non-linear levels with secret doors and stuff; modern single-player FPS tends to be very linear.
-In Doom your enemies are demons from Hell, instead of the military or sci-fi themes that dominate most FPS games (yeah, Doom is "sci-fi," but not in the way something like Halo is).
-Doom has depleting health that recovers with med-kits, instead of automatically restoring health which has been super-common ever since Halo.
Basically, Doom was the first popular FPS, but beyond "being a first person shooter" most of its specific traits aren't prominent in modern shooter games. And since it didn't create the genre either (Wolfenstein did), I feel you could easily make the case that later games are more influential. |

I think the "sit in cover and autoheal" mechanic is seriously shit, but it is now everywhere because of Halo. |

PUBG for inventing and popularizing the Battle Royale genre. Love it or hate it, Battle Royale defines the modern FPS (PUBG, Fortnite, Apex, Warzone) and has made the genre more popular and culturally relevant than ever. |

It always felt too 2 dimensional and repetitive/predictable. Wolfenstein felt more innovative to me, and I think a lot of people who got into Doom had just never played Wolfenstein.
Half Life was the first FPS that actually got me hooked. It had a really cool look and feel with the jumping and shit. HL2 was maybe the apex. Spawned TF2 and CS, which still has an active community today. Pretty sure all potus multiplayer FPS were Valve products. |

The two most popular types of FPS, deathmatch and battle royale, can respectively trace their modern origins to Halo and DayZ. |

That path runs from Doom to Quake (including the original Team Fortress and Q3 Rocket Arena) to Unreal Tournament.
Hell even games like Rainbow Six were doing competitive ladder deathmatch before Halo existed. |
