Got a rejection letter postmarked THE DAY OF my screening interview. How would they have had time to print out all the ding letters etc. and gotten to the post office before 5pm to get them all postmarked the same day?
Perhaps the ding letters were prepared BEFORE they even interviewed me? |

I called up some other friends who I knew had interviewed with them as well and they all got the same letter with the same postmark. such complete bullshit.
On a related note, McGuire Woods told people at the END of the screening interviews that "they had just gotten word the summer program had been cancelled."
Dorsey and Whitney cancelled their interviews the DAY OF. The 9:00 appointment showed up at the door and found a little note taped to it.
FUCK firms and their bullshit.

BTW, Venerable is smart. They don't train people. If you think places like Simpson gives you shit work (doc review) then try Venerable. You will get half page memo assignments without even knowing the client's name. If you have a 3.6 from UCLA it will take you at most 2 hours to do the assignment. The partner will ask if it was challenging and you pretend that it was.."oh yes.. the best assignment I've ever had..I don't understand why law school didn't make us to similar work."

The firm I work at this summer sent out their last pouch of the day at 8:00 pm so it could be post marked and sent out that day (the P.O. closed at 9pm).
When I was in grad school we would send out our grant applications at the main post office in philly at midnight on the last possible day that they could be post marked. |

Date: August 15th, 2009 11:36 PM Author: brilliant stage nibblets last season i interviewed with proskauer for their ny office, and the guy calls me up after and is like "hey we'd like to fly you out to l.a." and i'm like "uh...why are you interviewing for new york in l.a." and he's like "oh, i thought you were interviewing for l.a. hold on...(puts me on hold)...ok i just talked to the ny hiring partner and we want to fly you out to new york" so i'm like "ok, let me just figure out my schedule and get back to you in the next couple days" so then the next day i got a ding letter from them in teh mail. I was going through the post-clerkship firm interview process, and set up a callback with a firm in another city. When I set up the callback, the economy wasn't terrible (December or so). By the time I actually got there, it was a lot worse (Feb-ish). When I showed up to the office, I talked to a recruiting manager before actually meeting with any of the lawyers. I explained this somewhat unique situation with my 2l firm--they were trying to get us to tell them soon if we were going to work for them after the clerkship, so I wanted to know how quickly I could expect to hear back from the callback firm. The recruiter looked at me with a look in her eye and said "don't do anything that would jeopardize your other offer." Lo and behold, I did not get an offer from the callback firm. Firms just interview you as a courtesy to the school, which is stupid in my opinion since it wastes everyone's time, but that's how OCI works.
