Subject: 1L Fed judicial internship --> Drug test?

1. Yes/no?

2. If so, same day as interview? Only if an offer is made? Same week as interview?

3. Blood/urine/saliva, or HAIR?

What to expect?

Spinal tap? Poly? Comprehensive interviews of past acquaintances?

Seriously though, maybe I'm an idiot, but the original question wasn't flame.

For mine they didn't even do a background check other than the fingerprinting and criminal history kind of thing (I have no idea what that actually involves, but I didn't have to do fill out any forms or any of that).

Probably not. I'm not even aware of any criminal history check. I did have my fingerprints taken.

Haven't smoked for months but I have been blowing a lot of lines. Fortunately that has a shorter trail.

no way. they'll take fingerprints and do a criminal record check that entails very little. i wouldn't be worried about it.

Depends on the clerkship. I was a reference for a friend who was clerking on a COA, and the investigator visited me and asked me tons of questions (whether he ever did drugs, if he could be blackmailed, etc.) But I think that's only for certain clerkships.

was that judge working on classified stuff or something that required his clerks getting security clearances?

yeah, i think so. i don't think this sort of background check was normally required for law clerks. it was really, really thorough. i can't imagine they have the resources to do that for every federal law clerk.

that makes sense. that is the kind of thing they do for DoJ or AUSA. I was under the impression that law clerks only usually needed to get the minimal background check (not even a security clearance level).

yeah, he was kind of surprised that he had to go through it. his judge's clerkship posting didn't mention that they have to go through it. I don't think I've seen any postings on OSCAR that specifically require it.
