I am not a master man at this, someone else could probably give you better advice (I do not recommend career services).
Doing this either in your hometown or law school town is probably the best way to make it as painless as possible.
I would imagine most DA's offices would have information on their website for any summer programs they might have. In general, I recommend being as persistent as shit, calling and asking who's in charge of such decisions as often as it takes to talk to that person. Any unsolicited resumes you fax will get throw directly in the trash by a secretary.

Doesn't your school have a bunch of TTT externships/clinics/RA positions? They create volunteer positions out of thin air.
Why are you so inept?

Also, keep in mind that you still have time to find a job... summer is still afew months away.
be aggressive... work hard. look everywhere.
PD offices and DA offices are a good place to start are you in NY by any chance? I may have an idea or 2 if you are...

heh. ok. well, my suggestion was the Queen's DA's office Domestic Violence unit. They let students prosecute cases and they have a TON of work. They let you do the whole thing from intake to standing up in court.
It is awesome. And the guy in charge of it is a great guy. The process is as simple as talking to him about it.
It is just difficult to set this up remotely...

1) go to your professors. explain your situation. ask for help. many may be willing to talk to you about exploring options.
2) try to use student group connections. Fed Soc is great for this.

Go to fed soc... they have alums that may be willing to help.. maybe.
As for the professors.. don't worry about the grades. you need help. they are supposed to try to provide help. go talk to them. you may be surprised.
In any case, what do you have to lose? certainly not a job...

highly unlikely
the honors programs don't allow non-third year student applicants and they are looking for experienced attorneys for other positions. This is especially true now... these positions are flooded with applicants right now.... but try USAJOBS and see what you can find (fed gov job posting site.. includes lawyer positions)
EDIT: just to be clear... with the right experience you could apply for a gov job later.
I would take a step back and figure out what cases you can make for which career paths. Have you taken crim classes? labor classes?
