No.

Consent cases can be very interesting and can vary. I have seen personal injury cases on diversity jurisdiction, SEC civil prosecutions, a 10b-5 class action, Jones Act claims, complex business disputes and others.

DJ's have an overwhelming criminal docket and, often, the only way to get a firm trial date (rather than a "trial ready" date) is to consent to MJ jurisdiction.

On referral, we generally get cases for GPT (general pre-trial). IT means MJ resolves all non dispositive motions (non dispositive is defined by statute) GPT cases are often big, complicated cases that require a great deal of case management, such that DJ wants help. They are often interesting.

We can also get referrals for specific motions (requiring R&R). Those are often habeas, SS, and civil rights, but not always. depends on the DJ.

yeah we dont get all that in my flyover district (am a mag clerk). It's pretty much ss, prisoner 1983 (which a staff clerk handles), and federal habeas petitions. That's like 90% of the work. The mags here also rotate criminal duty months, where they have to preside over initial appearances, arraignments, and detention hearings

I did not go to Fordham, but it has a good reputation at 500 Pearl St. I hear Chin and Preska hire almost exclusively Fordham grads. Schiendlin hires them too.

In your position have you noticed hiring preferences for those that have interned and/or worked in fed legal jobs before? Or perhaps maybe you noticed this among SDNY prosecutors or other gov agencies as well if you research those bringing claims there?

I have not noticed such a preference. Most SDNY clerks I've met, however (DJ and MJ), were 1-2 years out of law school before they were hired. Most of them came from big firms.

tyft. I only ask cause some on here claim fed jobs usually prefer to hire only those with fed experience (as well as biglaw of course).
