So that means you can choose between several undistinguished midlaw firms like Riker, McCarter, and Lowenstein? Give me a break.

ite who fucking cares about "distinguished" or "prestige" man? having a steady and well-paying job is enough. what's wrong with a job at mccarter and english?

There's nothing wrong with it, assuming you can get and keep that job. And that's substantially harder than you think.

Lowenstein is a great firm, and better in the state than McCarter. They also just opened a NYC office. Although I doubt they'll ever be as well known as the major vault firms, they're still very good.

They do a lot of work with the big NYC firms (particularly Paul, Weiss). Ted Wells (head of PW's lit department) came from Lowenstein.

They pay a little less than market, though ($140k).

If by great firm you mean that Lowenstein was the only large NJ firm to lay off about 10% of its associates during a mass firing during the Great Panic of 08-09, then yes, excellent place.

There was a time when top 20% at Rutgers-Newark got you BIGLAW in NJ/NY. That time has passed.
