In what order do you receive/view OSCAR applications on the day they are released? Does it go alphabetically by applicant name? Grouped by school? Date of finalization? Something else?

OSCAR works similarly for chambers as it does for applicants. When you first look at judges, it just shows you all of them in alphabetical order. You can then do an advanced search to focus on the attributes you are targetting.

It's the same for judges. You see all the applicants alphabetically, and then you can filter out people by law school, grades, etc.

so it seems that people with last names toward the beginning of the alphabet have a (slight) advantage over similarly situated people without last names near the beginning

Not really. If you've got over five hundred applications, you're not just going to start reading them alphabetically. You're going to rely on searches and filters.

but after the filters and searches, if you are left with 80 or so, you're going to start at the top, and you may already have picked out enough good ones by the time you reach 60 and stop looking with as much effort.
