cr, accuracy is also way >>>>>> distance. I can hit a 9 iron off the tee and still make par, because I can get a 1 putt every time playing baller short game the entire time. Driving far comes after you can get it to the middle of the fairway 99 times out of 100.

1. Swing easy when it's breezy.

2. Go get a few lessons, and then go to the driving range a few times a week. Also, spend time on the putting green whenever you go to the driving range.

yes, definitely get a "set," but not until you've had a few lessons. when you have, go to a good golf course and have the PGA pro work with you in picking out a set of clubs.

no, that's why you go to a respectable place. you might have to pay them for an hour of their time, but they are professionals and will do a good job. make sure your pro is a PGA pro, not some schmuck.

well, it's been a while since i bought new clubs, but...you're probably looking at between $1k and $1.8k for your clubs and a good pair of golf shoes.

you'll need to spend $30-$90 a year re-gripping your clubs (rule of thumb is get them regripped the same number of times/year that you play/week).

gloves, you'll need several gloves a year...no more than $150 or so.

balls, you can get a dozen decent new golf balls for like $20 or $30. as a noob. you might lose 4-6 balls a round, but you'll also find a bunch of balls.

lessons range from $40/hour to $150+ with reputable PGA pros. you'll want a few of them occasionally.

going to the range costs ~ $10, you'll want to do that 3-4 times a week, starting out.

the price of a round will vary, particularly by geography. you should be able to find a decent course where you can play 18 for ~$50, or 9 for ~$15-20. play once or twice a week, if you have the time. it's fun to get out and play 9 in the evening. you should walk as much as possible, which will also save you some cash.

1. Keep your head down.

2. Pause for a moment at the approach and let yourself relax before you start your swing.
