Big Law or DA Office?

At your DA interview, the burden will be on you to (a) show a true interest in trials/criminal law; (b) explain why you didn't do both summers at the DA's office like everyone else, and (c) explain why you don't have 50+ jury trials under your belt.
They may even try to hire you at the entry level, saying that they "build up" cases a certain way.
If you're really gunning for this path, I'd suggest getting into a DA office in a smaller town (e.g., Springfield or something) a couple years before you want to get into the Boston office. It'll go a long way.

Date: September 11th, 2010 12:26 AM Author: claret heady area rigpig This is very credited. I know someone who lateraled to the Manhattan DA's office after several years in NYC biglaw, and they started out as a misdemeanor assistant along with 25 year olds fresh out of law school.
They let her advance through felonies much quicker, but I think most offices are big on building their ADAs from the bottom up.
That said, she gets paid a third of what she did in BIGLAW and is probably 12 times happier. |
