I always hear libs complain about this, yet when asked to cite specific examples, the shitheads I talk to fail and mumble something about tax laws (even though I have studied accounting while they were taking women's studies courses).

Its usually tax breaks to companies so they can set up shop in a given area. For example, the state of Texas offering Toyota special incentives to have a factory in San Antonio.

They aren't a bad thing. You use tax incentives to get someone to change their habits so its no big deal.

My one issue with tax incentives is solely with Wal Mart. They will get a tax break from x county for x years. Then after x years they ask for a new store to be built and ask for more tax breaks. The problem with this is that you have burbs with empty shopping areas that are a blight on the area.

Actually, food stamps are probably one of the most efficient government stimulus programs around. A lare percentage of the funds dedicated to food stamps goes directly into local economies when recipients buy food. Merchant's sales are higher, and it's not like they make less profit on goods bought with food stamps.

TCR. Also steel (tariffs), trucking (public financing of the roads), alternative energy.

I'm a conservative and I don't support these either (not sure about defense--I know nothing about the industry). Conservatives should support a free and level market, not one in which companies with political clout get subsidies.

The discredited "corporate welfare" claim always raised by liberals is the claim that the tax code subsidizes companies that ship jobs overseas. It's hardly a "subsidy" to only tax companies on domestic income. By liberal standards if a company packed up and completely left the US, it would be getting a subsidy since it no longer had to pay US taxes.

If implemented, cap and trade could easily become one of the biggest means of corporate welfare in the country. A carbon tax would be equitable, but any sort of system where carbon credits are distributed for free to existing polluters is ripe for abuse.

Not necessarily corporate welfare. Even completely elimination of the corporate tax wouldn't amount to "corporate welfare." The term is more appropriately applied to policies that favor particular businesses or industries.
