Date: November 21st, 2008 7:28 PM Author: Territorial Hairless Personal Credit Line Only weeks after their American cousin was elevated to the highest office in the free world, many of President-elect Barack Obama's Kenyan relatives remain unfazed by his historic election.
"I don't know what election is. Who is this man, and why are you come here," said Mutambe Obama Bajumbo, the president-elect's third cousin. "You go away now," he added.
Toiling in a field outside Nairobi's largest slum, Bajumbo expressed little interest in the American political scene and quickly returned to his shack along with his seven children as a dust storm approached.
Other relatives, including fourth cousin Satombe Kanjooba, mentioned that they were familiar with the new commander in chief, but only through foreign media.
"I see him on the little screen in the city but no see him here ever," Kanjooba said as she sorted through trash to find her next meal. "He come soon, yes?" she added with a smile.
President-elect Obama's transition office did not comment other than to say that no trips to Kenya were forthcoming in the near future.
