I have no idea how to bid or what bidding strategies to use. I've never researched it and I only have a general sketch of the V10/20/50/100. All I want is a market-paying job in NYC, Chicago, DC, SF, or LA.

What are my chances? Am I looking safe? What firms to target? I heard I should probably eliminate the west coast and DC because they are impossible to crack right now. So should I gun for just NYC/Chi?

Thanks in advance.

These are both credited law firms to consider if you want to stay in Michigan.

P.S--I summered at one of those firms last year.

i wouldn't count on getting places like Weil and Skadden with your gpa. on the other hand, you can rank them lower and still get interviews b/c they won't be as popular for bidding as lower ranked shops like dewey, proskauer, troutman sanders, etc.

You should stay in Michigan and try to develop connections at Honigman or Miller Canfield or Dykema or Dickinson Wright. All credited places of working, although they don't do the blockbuster M & A's and divestitures and White collar criminal litigation that NYC/DC Firms do.

Unless you are from Illinois, bidding in Chicago from UMICH is a disaster.

It's why they got pwn'd in OCI 2009. Their OCI told everyone to bid in Chicago instead of NYC, and that UMICH would be their ties. They got fucking massacred.

Well, any firm in DC like Covington Burling that also has a NY presence is out of the picture for you.

Let me tell you something, bro: Ann Arbor is a good place to study law. But you have to apply places that got connections--and u have to establish connections. Remember, the legal profession is a prestige-whore driven market.

Did you look up Honigman? It's known in the litigation/transactional community as the number one firm in Michigan. Very credited place of employment. They do some very good work. I worked in the transactional department, and the companies they represent are mostly privately-held corporations (unlike the big NY firms, who mostly represent publicly-traded corporations).

he is a very weird schtick. every time someone starts a clerking thread he *RACES* into the thread and asks 30 questions about §§2254/2255 habeas petitions. then he starts asking bizzare questions about "what are the common errors lawyers make in briefs" and "what are some tips to making briefs more effective and persuasive"

then he starts making random references to the firm Miller Canfield.

none of this would be that weird if he didn't do it in 50+ threads, but he does. i think he may be teddy and has probably worn a suit of skin in his lifetime.

EDIT: he also has a weird schtick component where he constantly asks C&F questions. he insists that his C&F background is fine but starts numerous threads asking if people have "heard back from the C&F committee yet" and how long is it supposed to take to get C&F approved.
