Every other biglaw associate seems to be shelling out 2k or so. I have to live in the city obviously. 1.5k doable?

Does that limit me to shit places like financial district?

concur. you will end up paying a lot in LIC not because it's expensive (relating to MFH) per se, but because most housing options are recent luxury constructions. not a bad option IMH.

It's really overblown. If the guy gets 1 roommate he can have a decent place in Manhattan for that price. I have 2 roommates and pay 1000/month (and yes,its a nice neighborhood).

With roommates you can live quite well in Brooklyn or Queens for less than a thousand a month.

If you are trying to live alone, absolutely not for $1500. Your apartment will actually be unlivable.

The best bet to get that price is to get 3-4 roommates, even 5 in some instances, and live in a giant apartment that takes up the entire floor of a brownstone. You can often get $1500 per person for a very nice situation since the rent comes out to $6000-7500 total. If you get the right people, this can be a great time and make living in nyc much more palatable.

If everyone is a single lawyer/banker, etc. it works. When people get a bit older and start to get in relationships, it gets tricky.
