Disagree. No job could mean in school or recent grad, we are talking 25 year old, not in his 40s. At the very least, he can lie about his job or what he does. Living with parents at that age is just pathetic, where would you even take the girl back?

Now that's just silly. Here is the reality: guys lie to get girls to sleep with them. There are things you can lie about easily, and others you can't so easily. Heck you don't even have to lie about being unemployed..spin it into something interesting like you are taking a year off to travel or starting your own business.

Nobody is changing the hypo, the facts remain the same. Living with parents is the biggest auto ding.

That's why no job is #1; if the guy has no degree, but is otherwise gainfully employed, it's fine.

That said, it's understandable why a female lawyer, for example, might want a partner with at least a ug degree, and it doesn't have to do entirely with educational elitism.

there are infinite reasons not dealing with educational elitism why a highly educated woman might prefer a partner with at least a ug degree. i choose not to get into specifics because i don't feel like an endless debate today.

Fine, here are just a few. Again, I will state them, but I don't intend on debating them further:

1)Similarity of ambition: I'd like a partner who has ambitions similar to mine --someone who I can share in with my struggles to succeed. A non-college educated person may also have ambitions, but they are likely to be substantively different.

2)Similarity of intellectual ambition/depth: A person without a college education is, all else equal, unlikely to be the sort of person who reads Foreign Affairs for fun or enjoys discussing economic policy over dinner. Mock it if you like, but these things matter to me, and they do to some other educated women, as well. I am not interested in a partner without a highly active mind/who is not very well read.

3)Similarity of life perspective: Bettering oneself via education and developing one's intellect are highly important personal values of mine. Certainly, a person could ostensibly achieve this without a college education, but it's exceedingly rare -- exceptions, it goes without saying, exist -- but the deisre to continuously grow and develop in this way is less likely when a person didn't even value a college education.

That's all. I will not respond further for te reasons mentioned above. If you think these reasons are meaningless, so be it.

i'm into econ because it's what i spend a lot of time on, but i'm interested in just about anything -science, art, politics, lit, whatever. i'd liek to date someone similar - they don't need to be brilliant or an expert, but just generally intellectually curious and an avid reader/auto-didact.

it could be a little awkward though, because you could get some dude whose thing is cultural studies and writing theses on britney spears, or somewhat more legitimately, Hitchcock and gender based on his encyclopedic knowledge of every shot in every Hitchcock movie, and then you're relatively ignorant of that and into completely other stuff.

You know most cops aren't like the guy in Bridesmaids, right? Is your Nickelback-listening, Applebees-eating, trout-fishing, Republican-voting cop boyfriend is going to fit in seamlessly with your friends? And do you really think his decision not to go to college was the result of a sophisticated cost-benefit analysis?

1. No job - retired early because of mega-successful start-up.

2. No place of his own (lives with parents) - one of his parents has some health issue, and he insists that they stay in one of the wings of his baller pad because he wants to make it easier for them.

4. No college degree (never attended) - he went full force into his start up immediately after high school.

6. No car - lives in an awesome, pretty dense area, and he's a health nut, so he walks and bikes everywhere.

7. No sexual history - waiting for the right one (LOL) or maybe had his heart broken a few years ago and is just now healing (LOL)

i think that #3 is in a very different (and much more understandable category) than 1,2,and 6. 1,2, and 6 are partly about money (obviously), but they're really about independence. at 25, a man should be standing on his own two feet (or at least on the path to do so).

all the other things depends on context. i'm not going to ding a dude who is a successful entrepreneuer who didn't see the utility of going to college or dropped out.

i'm also not going to ding a guy who is a HYS-educated lawyer who got laid off from biglaw and doesn't have a job.

i currently date a guy who lives w/ roomies, so that's obvioulsy not a ding.

Let's list the ways someone could possibly be a virgin at that age:

1. too emotionally damaged to be in a relationship

2. religious zealot who doesn't believe in pre-martial sex.

3. so unappealing that he/she is constantly rejected -> this leads to emotional/mental issues.

4. asexual

None of these people are normal

some people are late bloomers and only become attractive later in life.

others simply want to wait until marriage and/or until they're in a serious relationship where they love the other person. just because women in this day and age hand it out like candy doesn't mean the people abstaining are the fucked up ones. they're not "normal" in the sense that they're not having sex while everyone else is, sure, but they can be normal in every other meaningful way.

Some people were raised religious and stop believing later in life. That's fairly normal.

Some people are late bloomers. That's also pretty normal.

Some people get sick. You seriously going to ding a 25 year old cancer survivor because he's a virgin?

There are plenty of plausible reasons why someone could be a virgin at that age.
