Between LRAP and IBR, they make no loan payments and all will be forgiven. Household income 105k (55 him, 50 her) in a southern college down. Both went to T14s. Both are 1 year out of law school.

Yes, but they're both working 9-5 jobs with pensions and 100k+ household income.

That's a solid middle class life (and nothing above that).

I grew up on ~140k combined income and it definitely wasn't anything special.

However, their income will rise. So it's probably ok.

105k puts them around 85th percentile for household incomes. Not bad for 26 (M) and 25 (F) in stable jobs.

Compare them to the appropriate sample (people who go to T14 law schools or are smart enough to).

That seems pretty low to me, if you can get that from basic employable degrees (like accounting or w/e) from big state U.

Absolutely. Law school is worthless if you don't expect to get biglaw. You're better off going back to UG and doing a STEM degree at big state U than taking out 150k+ if you have some unemployable major.

They're in gov land in the south -- they say their depts have had no pay raises or COLA since 2005. No, they'll only make less.

No loans/COL are both directly factored into their pay, so not really much of a factor.

The rest of this post wasn't in the OP, but yes, they are comfortable enough financially to indulge in watching football.

How are no loans factored into their pay? There are plenty of TTTs in every state that fill state gov with their debt infested filith.

Because if you said they made 90k each, then their take home after loan payment would be the same, more or less. I'm just saying their pay is reasonable, under the assumption they aren't both paying loans.

They said entry level hiring is rare for their offices because the TTTs have too many students too indebted to take the positions.

I thought you just said they're doing IBR and not paying loans? (I guess you have to do minimums, but that's borderline negligable, even at 55k)

They can do IBR and their T14 has a LRAP program where the school makes all the payments.

Then that's pretty decent, although it's tight whether the pension benefits make up for the low income ceiling. I'd say that one could live a fine life in such circumstances, but there's not much room for error or risk.
