I have 22 open credit cards. I save one for my regular spending.

Every weekend, I splurge on a nice dinner. I charge it to a different cc every time. I rotate through all cc's except one so I use them each about twice a year. I have chargebacked every dinner purchase successfully on these cards this last year. I've "saved" appx. $2300 this last year on dining alone.

Never once have I had any pushback from the credit card company or merchant.

Is my cheapness credited?

LOL what? you report the charge as fraudulent or something?

I thought they put this on your credit report when you report a fraud charge and so they could eventually figure out.

no, there's no reporting on your credit report that you dispute a charge. there's a reporting that you dispute an account directly on your credit report.

if all the cards are issued with a variety of banks, there's no way they'll find out. if he has 10 chase cards and 10 citi cards, it's easier to find out.

Cheap is eating ramen or living off the McDonald's dollar menu. If this actually happened you wouldn't be cheap, just a thief.

But nice flame brah.

I actually never report the transactions as fraudulent. I just tell them, in a way they want to hear, that the quality of the purchased merchandise did not live up to what was promised.

tcr. i've charged back things that were total ripoffs/scams when the merchants refused to give discounts, even though they weren't "fraudulent." e.g., a very bad experience at a hotel.

I used to own a bar where this indian dude tried to chargeback two bar tabs in the same month. The next time he came in I told him he was either going to pay us in full and tip on the two tabs or be banned and get his ass kicked. He paid.

yeah, it was completely comical. He was a guy who used to come in fairly regularly too, so I was like wtf? Apparently Mastercard had a policy where if the merchant couldn't produce the signed slip they would always honor the chargeback regardless of whether or not the transaction was legitimate.

Opened them over the course of several years to collect the new account bonuses. Banks were pretty generous before '09, lately they've been getting generous as well.

Because of it, I haven't paid for a single airline flight the last 2.5 years, either.

Also, my credit score is above 800.

they often issue an automatic credit if the amount is low enough since it's more trouble for them to pursue an investigation.

you just tell them generically 'i didn't receive the services i paid for and have been unable to work it out with the merchant.' the min wage worker taking down the dispute isn't the spanish inquisition.

Ironically enough, it's probably less than minimum wage.

Usually when I call these banks (especially Citi) it's an Indian dude on the other end of the line.
