check this out fat ugly amerikan women:
"You could split hairs about the minute differences between the towns but really, they are both fairly similar WASPy wealthy towns on the Sound. The question that is most important is really, does your husband want to sit on a train for 35 minutes or over an hour each way? We're in Larchmont and even that is an hour door to door.
We looked for a long time in Greenwich and ultimately decided that for us at least, our time was more precious than money (and FWIW, houses in Greenwich were easily 30% more +, making the tax savings a bit of a wash for the near-term at least). We never looked seriously in Darien because my husband put his foot down at a 50 minute train ride. And from my experience, lower Fairfield seems more conservative than Westchester, which to me was a turn off having moved here from CA.
I do love Rye, though. It's absolutely beautiful and a great community, but I would guess that many residents use private clubs, as they do where I live. The public beaches and pools get super-packed, and parking is a disaster.

Yes, Rye Golf. Someone had said that since Port Chester can use the facilities in Rye, no one from Rye wants to go. Not sure if this is true or what it means, but if we're paying Rye taxes, I'd like to be able to use the town amenities (esp since we're considering not using the public schools).
On another note, any thoughts on preschools in Darien? Rye?
