Strong believer that networking occurs far before you'll ever need them.

Any friends from LS willing to help out, by any chance?

good luck bro. Random messages and spamming shit online has the same success rate as selling knives door to door. Unless you're targeting a job which requires a very niche skill, it's generally not the way to do it

If you start joining country clubs or whatever now with the intention of networking, a lot of people will be able to sense that off you and be put off by it.

Be friendly Be happy

as a former salesdood but ignorant about legal matters i think i can provide mediocre advice - is there anything you can bring to the table the average associate can't? Do you know what those decision makers give a shit about you might be able to provide? It's a tough game figuring all of this out

Or are you just "better" than most associates? (Which is hard to convince a random with, you typically need people to vouch for you and I doubt you want your existing firm knowing you're looking around)

i can certainly bring something to the table in terms of experience, but also have red flags in terms of grades. which is why im so hesitant to get my resume out there.

If you don't know anyone there and are trying to network remotely, that's tough.

If you are in the area in person: visit local Rotary Club meetings, Chamber of Commerce stuff, local business/charity events.

If you know someone in the area, obviously ask them to set you up.

That's tough man. Is this a major market (NYC/DC/SF/LA/Chi)? If so, your UG probably has some kind alumni club/society in that city. Try contacting them and seeing what's up.

If a smaller city, I don't really know what to say. Just keep in mind that in a lot of smaller cities, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce are big shit. I'd contact people there and see if they can point you in the right direction.
