How is it that roughly half the country subscribes to an economics model that ALL respected economists have rejected?
I have friends that are conservatives. I have friends that are extremely intelligent conservatives. But even conservative economics (e.g., Friedman's permanent income hypothesis) flatly contradict Republican ideas (e.g., that one-time tax breaks are stimulus).
When two decades of "trickle down" and flatter (and flatter still) tax curves have resulted in two recessions and a near-depression, how can anyone who believes in evidence-based decision-making support the Republican economic platform?

ur post doesn't warrant a response
"How is it that roughly half the country subscribes to an economics model that ALL respected economists have rejected?"
richard vedder, martin feldstein, greg mankiw, etc? lol at this question
"even conservative economics (e.g., Friedman's permanent income hypothesis) flatly contradict Republican ideas (e.g., that one-time tax breaks are stimulus)."
this is just wrong, plenty of con economists support one-time tax breaks. and one-time tax breaks are mostly political anyway -- reptiles would make them permanent if dems didnt obstruct
"When two decades of "trickle down" and flatter (and flatter still) tax curves have resulted in two recessions and a near-depression, how can anyone who believes in evidence-based decision-making support the Republican economic platform?"
if you think that bush lowering clinton's tax rates on the rich by 3% is the reason are economy sucks then ur just beyond help. lol@ this dailykos/huffpo line of reasoning

You seriously think Vedder is a "respected" economist? Please. He hasn't had a single original idea in his entire life.
Feldstein is indisputably "respected" - by those who can overlook the fact that he was on the board of AIG when it imploded and took half the world economy with it.
Mankiw is a Keynsian. I am skeptical that he supports the mainstream Republican economic impulse, despite his position on Romney's campaign.

To be fair,
(Random dipshit on the internet, authoritatively dismissing Vedder as a serious economist based on wishful thinking and vague but cherished memories from that 'Introduction to the Economic Perspective on Human Rights' class he took freshman year at Vassar)
*Waits on the edge of my seat for you to reveal that--just like an XO pumo--"ACTUALLY" you have "an advanced degree in economics...!"*

The vast majority of Republicans are Keynesian and/or neo-classicals, there is minimal difference between Republican and Democrat principles when it comes to economic constructs. Moreover, the whole "trickle-down" schtick was an elaborate false labeling campaign by Dems in the 80s and onward.
No offense, but your knowledge in this area seems to be limited to what you watch on MSNBC.
Edit: Maybe I am a bit harsh on you re: "trickle-down" google that + "Sowell". He makes and then defends the fact that no actually economists made the claims that people associate with the "trickle-down" ideology.

To be fair,
Demonstrably false.
There's no such thing as a wise partisan, however.
