I feel bad for him. He graduated solidly top 15% from a T1, and now he's unemployed. This was after beginning work at this shit commercial debt collection firm when he was a 1L. Now he's got nothing.
The writing was on the wall, though. He should have always been looking for a new gig. He had little to no work to do for months before he got shitcanned.

They just didn't have the work for him. He's a great employee and had stayed with them since the beginning of 1L. They almost hired him out of pity, because they always hinted that they had a job for him. It was basically a firm with three really old partners, like in their late 60s/early 70s. There was one other associate with five years in.
His bosses seemed like pretty decent people. He never complained about them, they appreciated him and let him know that. I guess they were actually devastaed they had to let him go.
He should have never settled with this place though. He basically hitched his cart to shit law and didnt' even realize it was shit law or understand the market. When they negotiated for his starting salary, he asked some professor who has never been in private practice what he should ask for.
She asked what market was, he told her 160K, she told him 75% of that. So he actually asked for 120K from an absolute TTT shitlaw firm. They nicely told him 60K was the most he could do, and he accepted it.

I don't think it was on the table. He's getting unemployment at least.
Its fucked up. He's a great guy, got pretty good grades despite working at this firm part time for 2.5 years, beginning DURING 1L year.
In a way, its his fault, because he never aggresively tried to find something better when he had the chance. I know lots of people with his creds that got mid law or decent small law.
Now he has no job. He's gotten some interviews, but no bites yet, and those interviews came when he still was finishing up at shitlaw, as they gave him a full months notice.
