Having professors completely shit over something you've been working on is not a good feeling.

Oh well... This is what whiskey is for. Cheers.

This is why I enjoy it. Over at those borts it turns into a boring discussion with a bunch of overseas students who wanna know how to trick the admissions committee... Here at least I can honestly talk about how to avoid getting busted for hooking up with undergrads.

Actually I have to admit that since I've joined I've been super careful about crossing that line. Only undergrads I've fucked have been those going to other schools. But I'm fucking surrounded by them here and damn it's tempting.

Yeah, I know, shit PhD... I'm totally cool with it because it lets me do something I totally enjoy. Plus I'm fully aware of it being a secondary discipline so the majority of the work I do is actually in the primary "sciency" discipline. There are plenty of other business profs out there who are grounded in another specific primary discipline that complements their business subfield.

Honestly, tenure track job is the primary goal. Nothing beats the opportunities there. The only people who you see going to industry are a) failures b) geniuses who want specific access to more data/experiments (it's become somewhat fashionable for some really bright dudes and dudettes to do this kind of shit) and do academic work outside of the confines of academia.

~90%

Business fields are pretty much still going strong in terms of tenure track placement. If you want a tenure track job, are semi-intelligent, and put in the hard hours, you will get it. The only question is whether your first job will be at HWS or something a bit less desirable, like UNM.

You'd be surprised. If your work is up to par, you can get a job at a top school. There are people at top5 who end up at shitty no-name colleges, and people outside of top 50 who end up at HWS.

That's not to say that anyone would cry about a six figure tenure track job at a decent average state flagship.

Ugh, LOL, we use all of the latest statistical and experimental techniques here.. If anything, modeling from social science perspective is a LOT harder than hard science. There the theory is a bit tougher mathematically, on our side it's the modeling part that gets incredibly complicated. Big data and new more intelligent quantitative methods are changing everything though.. Shit is fantastic.
