I doubt clients are gonna turn away from Quinn because of some flaky juries. They still have a deep bench with lots of patent lawyers with tech backgrounds
And the firm is mostly non-patent lit. Not sure how those patent losses taint e.g., their hedge fund litigators |

Wrong. You were told that a maximum of 20 lawyers would come over. That was when they were extending offers, but before they got responses. Many of those at Skadden who had offers to join Quinn decided to stay. If you saw the internal e-mails about who actually came, it was the 2 partners, a bunch of "of counsel," and only TWO associates.
Quinn's whole model is general lit above all. That means IP people can be staffed on general lit when general lit is busy, just as it means non-IP people are thrown on IP cases when IP is busy. |

Look, Biglaw is not - generally speaking - a happy place to be. If you have friends at other firms, you know this too. I think you could do a lot worse than Quinn. Sure I have gripes, but there are things I like about the firm too. It's not all black and white, is all.
This layoffs thing... I don't know what to tell you. I believe that you have a close friend who was just told to look elsewhere. But I can't help but think you're blowing this out of proportion. For example, the whole thing about farewell e-mails - I really haven't seen any more over the past few months than usual, so I don't know what you're talking about. |

2) true. but there's also very extreme gradations of the "general culling of the midlevels" and sometimes this blurs into "mass layoffs." remember, mass layoffs doesn't have to be latham taking a knife to 50% of one class nationwide. |

Is this a significant set of layoffs, or is it a few of his friends coupled with his being insanely insecure? If you're posting based on conversations with laid-off associates, then you're posting based on conversations with people who are angry and who clearly weren't that plugged in. I seriously doubt any partner told you the firm is slow, conducting layoffs, or trying to shrink.
You're not just here to provide info. You're here to trash a firm. You're disagreeing with any other info anyone else offers about the firm if it isn't negative or if it doesn't conform with your narrow, bitter, pessimistic story. Don't pretend "you're just providing info" and you don't have an agenda. We're not as dumb as you seem to be. |
