So my experience will be this over and over:
ATTORNEY, WHOKEBE AND WHOKEBE, 2 yrs of exp
ORAL COMMUNICATION: Represented clients in court; did this; did that
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION: Drafted briefs on xyz topic; did this; did that
LEGAL ANALYSIS: Analyzed _____ ACT; summarized xyz; did this; did that
ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Named most awesome attorney penis licker (what did you accomplish as an attorney; do this for every job, too)

Rinse and repeat throughout every job. Tailored every single job to be those KSAs and make it seem like my entire life was leading up to this gig. My resume ends up being like 5-6 pages. Also tailor your education section to include coursework and shit that seems relevant. |

You know as well as anyone, though, especially for excepted service, that it won't be that easy. These processes are horseshit and they may well have "hired" someone already. But it's something and seems a cr strategy. |

one of the biggest criticisms I've heard of bigfed in DC is that it is a) hard to afford living there on a middle class income and b) you get seduced by the lifestyle but it can be a real mental killer for someone with the ambition to have the grades/schooling that might get you bigfed these days |

There are cool opportunities, unique to the government, so that's nice, but working in a system that seems, almost by design, not to do things "right" is very difficult for thinking individuals.
I'm not in DC, but having spent a good deal of time in NYC, I can confirm a) and b) are true to great extent. DC will be similar, but also quite different, given its political nature. Some of the other poasts that have gone up today speak to this pretty well, I think. |
