"Directional" doesn't refer to geographic direction morons. These are schools that *direct* students, i.e. Most are kinda dumb and did shitty in high school. They don't know what they want to do with their lives and need a lot of hand-holding. Also, most focus on trades like IT, computer tech, nursing, dental hygiene, paralegal, medical assisting and education rather than the humanities, social sciences and pure sciences taught at better schools.
Most state public school systems have a flagship and then other branch schools.
Flagship: BAMA (University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa)
Directional: university of Alabama at Huntsville
