Ukrainian rebels want Russia. Chechens don't want Russia. They're aligned in believing they should each be able to choose. |

In imperial Russia all the Czar's bodyguards by tradition were Chechens. They composed the most elite unites of the imperial army. That was their role in the empire. Georgians sold watermelon, Chechen killed people.
This tradition carried over into the Soviet period where despite their opposition to communism the Chechens made up the core of the Soviet NCO system. With the Soviet collapse they lost their way, but have now found it in the imperial restoration and have bought back their honor in the process. |
