Anyone know what they are for the top 20 firms? (namely Skadden, Weil, Cravath, etc)

Skadden announced their bump today but hasn't announced anything to summer associates yet.

They also paid $2400 in the past despite having a base salary of $140k. I don't know why firms are dragging their feet on this. Props to Simpson, Cleary, and Paul Weiss for announcing clear and early.

That's correct, but they did that because everyone else was at $125k and paying $2400...I'm pretty sure they'll bump to $2788 (or something similar) now that everyone else is. I can't seem them staying at $2400 (but who knows).

I think most firms do a weekend or retreat for all the summers. That could get nasty.

I can see it now, the NYC summers rolling up in their new Bentleys while the LA associates pedal in on their secondhand Huffys.

my firm - who announced raised to 145 last week - stated something to the effect of "the summer associate salaries have yet to be determined, but we assure you they will be no less than 2,400." I figure they are either 1) waiting to get approval from partners before announcing the raise or 2) waiting to get confirmation that other top NYC firms are raising summer associate salaries before they match.

arent the firms (those that increased salaries) scared that their reputation could be hurt if they fail to raise summer salaries accordingly? (i.e. for recruiting in the fall, etc.. since there would be a lot of bitter associates)

yes. thats why I think my firm is possibly waiting to see if all other NYC firms increase before they go ahead and raise. Only a handful of firms have announced that increases will apply to summers. If they didn't plan to raise salaries, they would have just said "2400 per week" but they kept the door open to a possible raise.

also: there is a discrepancy as to how much they should raise the salaries. I have heard of summer associate salaries increase to 2788, 2789, and 2800

my firm has failed to say how much summers are getting paid at all.. wondering if we are ever going to get that info - the dont seem to be great about keeping us in the loop.

I'd imagine they will. No news does not necessarily equal bad news - see Gibson Dunn letter thread. Hopefully once a few more firms raise summer salaries, the rest will all follow- just like the raises for full-time attys

sure id rather have the extra 12 dollars a week but i dont think 2800 v. 2788 will have much of an impact on recruiting, only $144 if you work 12 weeks. Its like the old 2404 v. 2400 just adding a few more dollars. 2788 seems to be the pro rata for the new 145k.

Actually there was an explanation that the supposed "$2404/wk" salaries actually paid less than the $2400 ones. It had something to do with $2404 being an indication that the firm paid by the month, and that summer months were longer and thus you ended up making less than $2400/wk. Hopefully somebody else can explain this better than me.

wow, so gibson is doubly screwing their SAs...first stalling at $2404 and second hitting the monthly (or 15th/31st) rather than biweekly.

Ah, that's what it was. So if $2400 is more than $2404, by the same logic would the difference between $2800 and $2788 be much more than $12?

EDIT: Oh wow, I just did the math. $2788 comes out to something like $2705 by my count.
