Just attempted to rank my unfinished video games by genre. 200+ games

Date: August 23rd, 2017 4:10 AM Author: Marvelous Crimson Cuck I didn't even get into games I own but no longer have any interest in, or the total would have been much greater. Instead, I stuck to games I legitimately would like to beat at some point, or finish an additional playthrough on for some reason (for example, beating GTA V on PS3 then replaying later on PC with mods and maxed graphics). I also included games I legitimately want to play more that don't really lend themselves to being "finished," such as fighting games and 2D shooters.
This was a useful but somewhat depressing exercise. I could take a year off of work, only play my already-owned games and nothing new, and still not finish them. Some of the games are GOTY candidates. On the plus side, my library has proliferated in large part because I see sales on games and buy them, forgetting that I already have something superior to finish in the genre. I can now much more efficiently assess how a new game might fit into my current collection and choose what to play from what I do have.

I preordered the new Mass Effect based on a decent trailer and a general assumption it would be good, not knowing about all of the controversy because I avoid news/previews. I don't like having games spoiled beyond the most basic information. I started playing and quickly realized it was hot garbage. Have not played it since. I just straight up waste money on games. At the time I bought Mass Effect, my PC-style RPG backlog included:
witcher 2 -unplayed witcher 3 -unplayed pillars of eternity -unplayed skyrim - played for two hours, meant to set up mods but it takes a full weekend to do well and I never got around to it fallout 4 -unplayed baldurs gate enhanced -unplayed legend of grimrock 2-unplayed dragon age inquisition- bought at launch, never opened it because I wanted to finish DA2 first. Bought the ultimate edition for like $7 last black friday on origin but still haven't played it. dragon age 2 -played halfway through when inquisition first came out |

Do a sidequest or two if you are underleveled (grinding mobs is not fun in FO3) but otherwise if you want to play through just to complete, I'd definitely recommend sticking to the main quest as closely as possible.
Also if you are intent on finishing FO3, definitely don't play New Vegas or even FO4, it will sap your will to replay 3. |

The ideal game for me right now is something that I can play in 15-30 minute chunks but still feel some sense of progression: so mostly either casual competitive (Overwatch, HS, Rocket League) or grind-over-time loot hunting RPGs (Diablo 3, BL series, Torchlight series, etc.) |

I like being able to just check out limitless planets. Yes, planets of similar biomes can look pretty similar to each other after you see a few, but then you stumble across something cool and unique. The game has added some base building quests and a couple of main story questlines that add just barely enough structure to provide some direction to the open-ended exploration. There's also the search for that "perfect" home planet to build your permanent (as opposed to starter) base on. I have about 40 screenshots already and I like flipping through the coolest things I've seen.

There's a lot of good character content in the Heart-to-Hearts, which you should read online if you don't bother grinding for them in-game. |

other m is also a strong avoid. extremely linear, not challenging, story-driven in all the worst ways. |
