I feel the same way about BLM. At the same time I am sympathetic to their causes because American culture and American-style capitalism (the "system") are failing so many young people (disproportionately black, but many of them white middle american kids). People are striking back, sometimes incoherently (I believe a lot of the Trump vote is explained by this). Trump's intervention is symbolic of his approach to the Presidency: little discussion and leadership on policy and substantive issues and Fox-News talking points on wedge issues. I actually don't mind it. His approach will spare us from a lot of terrible policy.
The criticism you're responding to above is fair. Most posters have a very predictable and un-nuanced view of any issue and assume "libs" are this monolithic group of young college activists. I'd say the most common response to my political posts is "that's not what libs REALLY believe." If I say that maybe I'm not a lib, posters then deride my fake "moderate schtick." You guys just want some dumb strawman to beat up on and the modern media provides plenty of that for both sides. |
