One off the top of my head:
MEts vs. Dodgers, Degrom vs. Wood starting.
Now it's hard to beat degrom - it's true. But Dodgers took an early lead, and MEts tied it up in the 5th. 1-1
Top of the 6th, Roberts takes out Wood. Fine - it's September after all, and Wood has been shaky all year.
Puts in Baez. Gets the first guy out. The Baez gives up a single.
THEN he puts in Zac Rosscup after Baez faced 2 batters, who then gets a groundout.
He then puts in Dylan Floro to face Frazier, who eneds the inning with a groundout.
All good right?
Except he burned through 3 relievers there
Then makes Scott Alexander go 7th, who gets the 1st out, walk, single, groundout, single, then groundout, barely escaping a jam
HE then ran out of pitchers, and put in Kenta fucking Maeda in the 8th, who gets 3 easy outs.
(he's been money as a reliever last postseason but has been on and off)
Roberts then leaves in Kenta to get 6 OUTS TOTAL in the 9th - and fails spectacularly, as he gives up a 3 run homer in the top of the 9th.
Playing matchups is good- especially in the postseason where there's no tomorrow. But he ran the marathon that is the pennant like it's a sprint, and gave up games like this way too easily AFTER burning thru his bullpen.
