Almost Killed Myself First Time Skiing. Will Never Do It Again.

Date: January 14th, 2019 8:46 PM Author: Deranged smoky piazza elastic band on day 3, i got overconfident and started going a little too fast. i stupidly fell and ended up hitting my upper lip w my ski pole. got a big cut on my lip, but i was lucky that my lip protected me otherwise i could have lost a couple front teeth or something.
i'll never ski again. it just seems too dangerous. michael schumacker is a vegetable now. tons of celebs die skiing. just not worth it. |

I actually did almost die when I was 9. I was skiing at Killington and they had a run with an old non-functional lift running up it. I was racing my brother and spotted a short cut right at the bottom, I didn't notice that there was a guidewire cable running from a tree across the path of the shortcut up to the lift. I ran straight into it. Luckily it was eye level so it hit my goggles first, slowed me down and I flipped backward as it sliced down my chin and neck. If I was an inch taller i'd be dead. Even with my goggles taking the brunt of the impact my throat and bottom of my chin was ripped up. Alot of snowmobile guys get decapitated by similar situations. |

Snowboarders fall ALL THE TIME even if they're competent, while skiers rarely fall. I snowboarded for years and became a better skier than I was a snowboarder on day 2.
