it takes a lot of unbilled time to book sessions that way--craigslist surfers are price sensitive and will try to squeeze free advice out of you, will want to book 1 hour at a time, will want to meet at the starbucks closer to their house, etc.
work for one of the good paying cos, and you're making >75 an hour, in 4 hour chunks, with maybe an hour of logistical overhead per three months (figuring out whether you're doing T/Th or M/W or whatever every quarter).
having done both, it's really a no brainer. going solo is something that makes a lot more sense if you already have a little word of mouth network built (which is very easy to do if you start teaching for one of the good companies), but starting on CL from scratch sounds like an absolute nightmare imo
