Over the years, there have been a number of law boards which attempted to implement modern forum technology. All of those websites are rotting corpses with no user base.
Autoadmit has survived in its current form for decades because of the simplicity of it's design.
This place is prestigious because the written word is king. There are no fancy graphics. There is no whiz-bang technology to hide behind. The only reason that people come back to post here is because it is a haven for unadulterated, unmoderated free speech.
Autoadmit posters don't succeed because they have a blue check mark, or the support of institutionally-approved peers. Successful posters are the people who write with the most wit, the people who produce the most compelling scholarship, and the people who are not afraid to speak actual truth to actual power.
You Twitter idiots are uncritically looking down your noses at XO's classic, clean, and functional aesthetics from your 280-character chatboard, which is marginally better in form, but utterly corrupt in function.
XO exists so that intelligent people can engage in free, unrestricted conversation. Twitter exists to make money for Jack Dorsey and corporate sponsors, and it silences anyone who offends those sponsors.
Worst of all, while you pontificate about the racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. that runs rampant on this site, XO has never, and will never approach a miniscule fraction of the hate that is spread through Twitter every single day.

Changing "approval" to "support" was good; two "approval" in a row was a bit repetitive.
