If I'm being honest, I think what most people are really saying is that they just wish they could use a sword because they think it's more fun but feel compelled to tie it into some broader moralistic argument that I think stands on pretty shaky foundation. Like, your logic here stipulates that any divergence between Zelda and Link stems from sexist tropes and is thus the residual effect of harmful gender norms, so the proper response, then, is to make Zelda identical to Link because absolute parity would also represent an absolute lack of sexism. Which is fine if you're only concerned with making a moral stand and not also needing to balance that with making an innovative and fun game." |
