Despite being open, the surviving Sears locations have minimal staffing and offer no sales or discounts to the handful of customers who visit on a typical day.
"I've always been a loyal Sears customer and always will be," said Bob Engler, 79, of Farmington, Ohio. "I need to see a clerk about a rebate," he added, while carrying a store card that expired in 1988.
Many have described Sears' handful of remaining locations as time capsules, with decor, advertisements, and products seemingly frozen in another time.
"Can anyone help me? I want to redeem this special offer," said Engler as the lights flickered and went out.
