How bad is squid game s2?

For reference I thought Squid Game s1 was squarely "dumb but fun" except for the incoherent trash ending which was clearly tacked on to set up a cliffhanger, but was still overall enjoyable. |

There was some literature critic from the Irish Times who claimed to have read 3 books a day for 50 years. Reminds me of that. "I know books!" Her top complaint about any book was knowing exactly where it was going after a couple chapters. She said she viewed novels like The Matrix. She could see the code. She had become one with the meta arc of all human literature. |

Make them over the top disgusting Weinstein slobs. Need the audience to sympathize with the turd migrant worker? Make him more kind, naive, and selfless than anyone you've ever met.
Cf. Game of Thrones season 1-3, where everybody seemed real, you understood their motivations, and plotlines were driven by interesting decisions they made, rather than what would make the audience gasp the most. |

Episodes were bloated and repetitive; seems like it would be trivially easy to edit 1/3 off the running time without losing subplots or development. I was happy when the story finally went in an interesting direction in the finale. The overall storyline and character development were melodramatic and childish but I know what I'm getting into when I watch Korean stuff. I spent a few episodes trying to figure out 001's motivation but decided it was a waste of time because the writers were clearly just doing whatever seemed twisty and cool.
