On the one hand, Ukraine's successful independent mission diminishes the appearance that he is powerful and in control. It makes the US and him look weak.
But he also can't condemn the attack because 1) the US and EU are preparing a new sanctions package on Russia so a condemnation would send mixed messages and 2) the mission is super popular and he doesn't want to pick a loser in Russia |
