its really not and this is where some of these abrahamic traditions lose me
it's not the earth itself that's wicked; this line of thinking tracks with the dismality of jewish/christian/islamic orthodox view on the nature and soul of women (earth and nature in general are female-coded). it's a good chunk of what's been built on top of it that drags man down into the dirt

the best talk on that saga that i remember hearing was from an esoteric christian rambler on twitter. he stated that the fruits of that tree were going to be freely given to adam and eve once they were ready. it wasn't that eating it was necessarily evil, it was the timing and the circumstances in which they were procured
why else would the tree be there? it had a purpose to be revealed eventually

i've read this argument before but don't think i agree with it. it reminds me of some of the thinking in the Zalman texts i was poking through, which i agree with on much. i have a pretty different idea of what constitutes sin and how the soul in the vessel draws itself and is drawn towards higher emanations of holiness but it's not really anything i know how to relate yet
