musk has said 1,000x that he didn't want to IPO spacex until mars flights were regularly occurring because public companies are too obsessed with quarterly earnings instead of longer term investment/vision
the guy is just a giant scam artist, he sucks so badly, but he knows how to scam the goyim in a supreme manner, there's no one who can do it like him

"Made up bullshit” is too strong, but your skepticism is pointing at something real: it’s not a concrete, near-term, funded product—more a long-horizon possibility that gets talked about in a very speculative way.
Here’s the clean way to frame it:
What’s real
Space companies can already run computing in orbit (basic processing, AI inference, onboard filtering).
Launch costs have dropped enough (thanks to systems like SpaceX Starship in development) that putting significant hardware in space is becoming less absurd.
There are real technical studies on “space-based data centers,” especially for niche use cases (military, Earth observation, extreme low-latency edge cases).
So the physics doesn’t forbid it.
What’s not real (today)
There is no announced SpaceX product or roadmap for orbital data centers.
There is no economic model that currently beats Earth data centers for general cloud computing.
There is no deployed system even close to “data center scale” computing in orbit.
So if someone is describing it like:
“SpaceX is building orbital AWS replacements soon”
…that would be misleading hype.
