The Nerdy Escorts Cashing In On Silicon Valley’s AI Boom

A small group of high-end companions are charging time-poor technorati thousands an hour by offering a blend of sex, attention and genuine intellectual rapport.

By Anna Tong

In 2024, Meida Marek (her online pseudonym), was a recent college graduate working an entry-level finance job when she started doing the mental math that’s fast becoming a rite of passage in such industries: What happens when AI can do this better than I can?

So Marek took inventory. She was intelligent and naturally supportive. She was good at talking to people. She likes futurist rabbit holes: AI, biohacking, cryptocurrency, the sort of topics that can turn dinner into a three-hour debate.

So she decided to turn that toolkit into a new career—and became an escort.

For Marek, it’s sex work with a particular angle: high-end companionship for Silicon Valley’s most online, most technical clients—often the kind who work in AI or around it. Lately, she’s been getting a lot of clients from Nvidia.

There are only a handful of women like Marek. And like their clientele, they are also killing it financially.

“I would call it a ‘nerd-first’ approach,” says Aella, an internet-famous sex worker who became a sensation on X for applying a data science perspective to her own love life. These days she spends more time on AI safety advocacy work—an AI doom bootcamp for creators called Plz Don’t Kill Us—but she still talks about the demand she saw up close: men who want the hot, smart girl to also take their ideas seriously.

These escorts’ nerd literacy is baked into their marketing materials. All have active X accounts where they post provocative selfies, mixed with commentary on topics like AI and longevity. Marek’s booking portal is built like a text-based role-playing game where users must complete interactive prompts. On Talia Sable’s site, she markets herself as “a huge nerd,” and notes that she is an ex-programmer interested in Dungeons and Dragons, AI and supply chains. Sable charges $3,000 an hour.

Ada Hopper

Ada Hopper

“Posting about AI works,” says Ada Hopper (also an online pseudonym), who used to go by the descriptor “Autistic Courtesan” on X. “You'll have random Nvidia bros who are like, ‘What? You know what a GPU is? Oh my God, wow.’”

If you want to understand the economics, just look at the menu. On Tryst, a directory for escorts, $1,000 an hour is already high. Marek charges $3,500. She has no problem getting it, and her rate has almost doubled since the beginning of the year. Currently, she says she’s booked out for the next few months, and is getting so many inquiries that she’s considered raising rates again.

“I recall at least one girl describing herself as a ’Claude Widow’... She’s lost her husband to AI stress.”

“The girls who charge the highest rates are not the hottest girls,” says Hopper. “They’re the girls who are hot and smart.”

Hopper says she charges $5,000 an hour. She frames the work the way a finance person would: an aggressive wealth-building move in a world she thinks is hardening into tiers. Marek, who takes a similar view, says she wants to avoid becoming part of the ‘permanent underclass’ that many Silicon Valley technorati believe is coming soon.

In the original gold rush, some of the surest fortunes went not to miners, but to the people who sold them picks, shovels and lodging. In San Francisco’s AI rush, there’s a similar service layer forming. One part of it is paid companionship for the people doing the digging.

Dating-as-a-service

The Valley’s schedule culture practically manufactures demand for escorting.

Escorts Forbes spoke to describe clients who are founders, researchers or senior operators who live inside their calendars. Many want something that feels like dating—attention, warmth, conversation, sex when it fits—without the friction, rejection or uncertainty of modern romance.

The ethos has its own merch. A founder meme—“single until series b”—became a slogan, then a hat. It’s half joke, half confession: relationships are treated as a liability until the company is “real.”

Maybe the singles have the cleaner argument. They are, at least, limiting the blast radius. The ones in relationships just give the stress somewhere else to live.

“I recall at least one girl describing herself as a ‘Claude Widow’,” said Mark Nadal, a San Francisco-based porn actor who also dabbles in male escorting, referring to Anthropic’s AI chatbot. “She’s lost her husband to AI stress.”

Marek says her average client is young, typically in his thirties or forties. What they’re buying, she says, isn’t just sex. It’s time with someone who can match their intensity and not flinch at their favorite subjects.

She recalled a long night at the Ritz-Carlton, lying in bed with a client, just talking.

“There was this giant window that took up the entire wall,” she said. “I remember the sun going down and then coming up again. We were still talking about the future. There was some sex in between, but most of the time it was just playful, nice conversation."

An ungodly amount of money is being minted in the AI revolution. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently noted that the company has created an unprecedented number of billionaires among his executive staff. In October, OpenAI allowed more than 600 employees to sell up to $30 million worth of shares. Upcoming IPOs from OpenAI and Anthropic are expected to generate what Silicon Valley tech folks are calling ‘generational wealth.’

Even when it’s not quite cash in the bank, there are a lot of people walking around Silicon Valley with the feeling of having won early and big. And after “how much,” the most pressing question is “what do I do with it?”

“They don’t want fancy cars, they don’t want fancy watches,” said a person who helps newly minted AI millionaires figure out their philanthropy strategy. “They don’t know what to do with their money.”

One of Marek’s clients, an entrepreneur who made a fortune as a trader during Covid and is now launching a new AI startup, told Forbes he reached out after reading Marek’s online posts.

“I am a lot more selfish with my time now,” he says. “It's easier to pay money for time – there are clearer boundaries.”

Aeila’s Blueprint

Today’s new crop of escorts have Aella to thank, the original nerd-first courtesan, as proof of concept. When she started off as an online cam-girl 15 years ago, she performed what she calls "mime porn": dressing up as a mime to perform gnome and circus-themed shows where she would simultaneously engage viewers in long philosophical discussions. By the time she moved to the Bay Area in 2018 to embed herself in the local rationalist community, she brought that same personality-driven approach to her sex work.

Aella

Aella

"[Clients] desperately want a girl who is hot to also appreciate their intelligence," she says, noting that while customers often choose her due to her smarts, they mostly end up talking about themselves and using her as a sounding board.

Aella’s own informal data analysis backs this up: she once ran a word-cloud study proving that escorts who employ erudite language command significantly higher market premiums than those who focus purely on sex. Today, she says, she charges $6,000 an hour, though she sees only a few clients a year.

Kim Lee, a dominatrix with over 20 years of experience in sex work in the Bay Area who teaches sex workers how to manage their businesses, observed that in the past several years, she’s seen an increase in the amount the high end escorts can charge.

Her rough ladder: Lower-end escorts charge around $300 an hour, and mid-range escorts charge around $500 to $800 an hour. Five years ago, she said, the ceiling was about $1,000 an hour.

“Now I have noticed that super high-end escorts will charge way more than that,” she said. “I’m seeing around $2,000 an hour. But there are very few people. It’s rare.”

The four women in this story all charge more than that. All four have other employment options; they've chosen the most lucrative.

The nerd-first date

On a recent afternoon in her new high-rise apartment in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, Hopper pours tea from a Christian Dior tea set and speaks in the calm, matter-of-fact cadence of an engineer or finance executive. Hopper, a five foot ten redhead in her 20s, offers up her views on the racial politics of Bridgerton to observations about Communist sex workers who service successful businessmen. Her clients, she says, fly her internationally for multi-day trips and buy gifts on top of her $23,000-per-day fee. Shopping sprees are common: one client took her to Europe, where they did acid and spent “thousands of euros” on fur hats. She likes antique jewelry and Edwardian costuming; she recently got fixated on miniature clocks embedded in old pieces worth thousands and antique, handblown glassware.

But she’s also game for their hobbies. A base-jumping fan brought her to Stockholm to do wingsuit training indoors. He extended the trip three days.

Demand is high enough, she says, that she can be selective — and she’s fired clients before. One once tried to “buy her out” offering over six figures a month. She considered it and said she had feelings for him, but passed. The client wanted her to stop escorting and have kids with him soon. “Due to the amount of requested travel lately, I've limited the number of trips I accept per month to bespoke arrangements with those who authentically delight me,” her website reads.

They get nerdy gifts: one of Marek’s clients gifted her a Mac Mini so she could run her own local instance of OpenClaw. Another commissioned AI-generated art for her.

Despite the staggering financial rewards, it’s a scary path. Hopper worked in finance before becoming a full-time escort, and said she spent a year mentally preparing before taking the plunge, investing $20,000 upfront in high-end lingerie, professional photography and website design.

Before her first appointment, she says, her nerves were so intense that her stomach felt like "liquid." That client shared her obsession with intermittent fasting and metabolic health. The pair spent the majority of their time discussing academic papers on ketosis and carnivore diets. He extended the session and saw her as a client for another four years.

Marek’s clients report a similar crossover of interests. The trader-turned-AI founder who discovered Marek on X through her blog now flies her out to New York for extended "chunks" of time (at a price of $30,000 a weekend) and takes her to fancy restaurants. He says he was “extremely unhealthy” when they met; since then, he’s lost 50 pounds and adopted her view that longevity is a “moral imperative.”

Real humans as the ultimate status symbol

If AI is making digital companionship cheap, flattering, and always available, why are prices for the real thing skyrocketing?

Because scarcity is the whole point. Simulated intimacy is a drag. Unfiltered, unprogrammed human authenticity that surprises you? The kind you can’t just refresh? That’s an area where AI can’t outperform humans. Aella observes that girls who let their character quirks shine through tend to be able to charge more, even if they show disagreeability.

For one Austin tech executive, AI companionship didn’t replace intimacy. It made loneliness worse. After his divorce, he found himself dependent on erotic chatbots and increasingly intense BDSM scenarios he later called “deeply disturbing.” His breaking point came in a grocery line, when he realized his chat exchanges were still running in his head during the most ordinary moments of his day.

He quit cold turkey and went looking for actual human company. That was harder. His life was split across kids, work and aging parents in different cities; the dating apps, he said, were “a train wreck.” Then he found Aella’s “How To Hire An Escort: An Overly Analytical Guide” and started looking for paid human company.

“I went on a quest to meet intelligent, beautiful women who are neurodivergent and will exchange money for time while spent,” he said. “There are women who are desperate, there are women who are making the best of their less-than-ideal situation, and there are extremely smart, slightly neurotypical rebels who will voluntarily accept the stigma from society for the income and freedom the lifestyle affords.”

So far, he’s hired escorts with master’s degrees in economics, English and math, he said.

Charlie Levine, her pseudonym, another escort who holds a master’s degree, sees AI as a core engine of her developing business. "As AI becomes bigger, authentic human connection will become a rarity," she said. "In the future, being able to afford human contact, and to afford settings where there is genuine human contact, will be the ultimate luxury."

The obvious objection is that none of this began with chatbots. Wealthy lonely men have always paid for sex. But AI changes the calculus. When a machine can offer endless, agreeable fantasy for the price of an app subscription, the expensive thing is no longer the fantasy. It is the real thing, stripped of algorithms: the woman who gets bored and changes the subject, who challenges an argument, awkwardly laughs at the wrong moment, or makes the room feel less like a prompt and more like a life being lived out in the world.

It’s a tidy, but grim loop. AI is making simulated presence cheap, instant and tireless, while minting an elite class willing to pay a premium for the part it can’t supply: a real person’s attention.
