was a shitshow. dems asked lots of gotcha questions about rfk's flipflopping on various issues (vaccines and abortion, mostly), yelled a lot, and generally acted like sanctimonious pricks.
repubs underhand tossed the biggest softball questions imaginable.
the biggest takeaway from what i saw, though, is that rfk really struggled with the questions about how he would actually perform in the position. he very clearly didnt understand how medicare and medicaid work or the scope of the job duties and what falls under the purview of HHS

i think everyone expected the ridiculous dem 'gotcha' questions about his past stances re: vaccines and him flip flopping on abortion. none of that was surprising and i dont think any of those questions really matter re: his confirmation because those dems weren't going to vote for him anyway.
i actually really like rfk and appreciate his environmental lolyer work. i love how much he wants to focus on getting the poisons and shit out of our food. but i think he may have really sunk himself today. any republicans that are on the fence about confirming him definitely have legitimate reasons to vote no |
