A curved manifold is not curved by violating flatness everywhere in an obvious way. It is curved because the flat approximations from neighboring windows do not globally patch together without mismatch. I shit you not, were in the middle of fucking nowhere on a private vessel, yet within 5 minutes of the ice wall appearing on the horizon, we were buzzed by aircraft and told in no uncertain terms and like 9 different fucking languages, that if we didn’t turn around immediately and proceed to like the 60th parallel we’d be detained and our vessel seized.
