Is it ethical to eat your pet after it dies?

I believe one or both of them are going to die this year. I am seriously thinking about eating them after they die. I think the arguments are threefold: (1) in an odd way, it honors them; (2) it would be wasteful not to; (3) it would spare me and them the ignominy of having to throw their bodes in the garbage outside my building.
