they are fucking killing it with their re-released retro synths these days, for a fraction of the "real" thing. The ones I want are the desktop versions that you can use with a midi controller, I don't have room for all of these in full size.
The Pro 800 I think is basically a Prophet 5 but with 8 voices.
They have another one that looks badass that is an Oberheim Ob clone but I won't get that one.
Lots of other clones too.

It apparently sounds a tiny bit better but is way more complicated and shit
Like you add some delay and no sound comes out because of settings on the delay that you have to troubleshoot etc
Helix is just easy. The new one has this thing called focus view where you can just drag your finger around the screen and it turns all of the settings with it and then you can fine tune. It’s 180

It is apparently the best sounding modeling right now
But remember, the differences are slight
Almost imperceptible in a band or a mix

he did say there's a huge learning curve and that the nearly infinite possibilities for customization are great but make it complicated to use.
i just got an electroharmonix micro synth pedal at a huge discount. it's opened a new world of tones for me. i now have a pedal board with 4 boxes on it.

Yeah that's what they say
Apparently a million parameters to fuck around with and very complicated
That pedal looks nice

I'd like to hear about the Helix
I'm that noob who just got a Jazzmaster
I know I said I'd get an amp and start splurging on pedals if start to get okay at playing. But increasingly I'm thinking that getting a Helix and running it into my home stereo would be cheaper than amp + a bunch of pedals

I am a huge advocate for the line 6 helix. I bought the original one in probably,2017. It’s ridiculous. Something like 120 amps modeled, hundreds of every effect you could ever imagine, etc. Just endless awesome shit
The new Line 6 Helix Stadium just released, which I traded in my old helix for like $600.
You can find them usd for around that price because people are upgrading to the new one. See https://knoxville.craigslist.org/msg/d/knoxville-line-helix-floor-multi/7895253263.html
Get the “Helix floor” with the little oleds above each stomp button, they are useful
The old one still sounds great imo and the effects on the new version are exactly the same as the old version. Here’s an intro video to it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EUPWIjtOxw&list=PL7zKPzIlDj21eAk6_H_-iP6cIHOuSAatt&index=2

original Helix has 112 guitar and/or bass amps and 274 effects
the new one, as of now, has all of the above, plus 22 new amp models using their "Agoura" modeling tech, which to me sound similar but better to the old Helix models, but they have a lot more dynamics and sound and react to playing more like a real amp. They are going to release many many more with this new technology.
The effects between the old one and the new one ARE THE EXACT SAME right now. No differences. Although I assume they will use the additional DSP on the new one to do some pretty cool reverbs and polysynth effects in the future that the old one can't do.
The new one will also have amp profiling, where people make profiles of their IRL amps and upload them. a lot of players far prefer amp profiles to modelled amps (tonex, quad cortex, etc). This feature is not out yet but supposedly coming later this year and a lot of players will probably use those instead of the amp models a lot.
there is also some thing on the new one where you can control stage lighting and shit that i will never use
**** but if you are a beginner, and know nothing about this shit, a $500-600 Helix Floor is mind meltingly awesome - professionals have been using this thing on huge tours for 10 years (it was released 10 years ago). I don't think you can do better for the money - and it can do pretty much anything, amazing for shoegaze stuff
and a really fucking cool thing I've done - find a guitar tone in a song that I like, link it in Chatgbt with the time stamp and be like "give me settings for a line 6 helix that sounds like the guitar amp and effects at 3:16-3:40" - it is not perfect but gets you somewhat close to very close.

When I said I am short on analog inputs, what I mean is that I am out of analog inputs. I'd have to get a mixer to add any more analog inputs, and I don't want to do that if I can avoid it.
I don't plan on playing anywhere other than my living room anytime soon, so no reason to get a FRFR just yet.
As for monitors - I have no need. I have Dirac on my living room stereo. I can make my stereo be incredibly flat at the listening position.
I'm fully confident that my Dirac'd stereo would beat out a large number of very expensive monitors in far-field listening if said monitors weren't similarly EQ'd to the room.
Good monitors would win out in nearfield listening, but that doesn't matter to me. I want to rock out on my couch, not perched on an office chair in front of a desk
