I thought this thing would be a DISASTER. As a baseline matter, I don't trust USB4 implementations that aren't Thunderbolt certified. I figured the interface would get saturated and I'd have to return it at Whole Foods and cop day $10 Whole Foods gift certificate they give me now (ljl@ DBG missin' out).

But I guess I didn't think about how fucking SLOW these old SATA hard drives are, even when running at their fastest. Saturation isn't an issue at all. The controller in this device is was made by the Greek Gods, not by mortal man.

This thing doesn't have a RAID controller. That's what's so 180 about it. If you want to do RAID that's on you. I created a ZFS pool, but technically it's not a type of RAID. Everything else has some RAIDshit inside it.

Getting off the cloud entirely, putting my shit in one place, having it on a VPN I can get too, not having to think about any of it, forgetting about all of it forever. This thing consumes at most 200W from my UPS, so it can run for like 30 minutes after a blackout.

Forgot to mention I'm getting rid of like 90% of my shit and getting a Macbook Pro instead. I don't want to have to deal with another PC ever again. Done with all that. Selling it all on Facebook Marketplace.

PS reviewers saying it supports UASP are right, or seem to be right. I didn't expect that at all. I can't saturate it. I put OLD hard drives out of the closet, one was only 2TB. I can't saturate it. I tried to fuckstart it today by putting absurd settings in the cache settings, and it didn't work. I mean the array worked, but my efforts to saturate it failed.

Here's more than enough PC to run it. I have a cheaper version from the same company.

https://imgur.com/a/B58ZF76

All that matters is the dual 2.5Gbe LAN. One hard drive running at full speed can max out at around 2.5Gbe, so full speed simultaneous read/write requires 2x 2.5Gbe even in theory. Laws of physics. Don't run VMs and shit on it. Don't game on it or install containers. You can get another mini-pc for $200 that will do that shit if u need it. If you order from the manufacturer it's cheaper than amazon

Those are sick transfer speeds for a parity check on an array that size. Most people get 1/3 that speed. I was getting 1/3 that speed till I changed two settings on a lark, and this array is setting speed records rn. I gave it 80% of my RAM as cache. Fuck a container. That's how you do it.

Protip: any pc part witb less than 4.5/5 stars is complete shit.

I was looking at docking bays recently, including a sabrent along the lines of what you posted but for a single hdd and single ssd, and a surprising number of people were reporting complete catastrophic data loss. it had 4.3 stars.

This thing feels like it was carved out of stone and has a very high quality controller. Not sure what they could have cheaped out on. It handles 20tb drives no problem, and it isn't fussy about what cables you use. I haven't figured out how the lock works yet but I'm sure it works.

Half the reviewers probably bought ther one with the RAID controller too. Can't compare.
