Designing and developing, not just giving $ to legacy institutions like colleges or charities for the tax bennies

The Rockefellers built out scores of acreage in NYC

Detroit auto (inflation adjusted) billionaires had their names on whole yuge swathes of the downtown area

Now? Alive girl, new Reaganite WaPo, toxic glue brain torture chip, Warren Buffet smugly lecturing proles on "investing long" with 30 year windows, PoE2 stolen gamer valor

Walking around Philadelphia you'd see a guy's name on patronage plaques on 15-20 buildings around e.g. independence hall

Google him later and you find he was some wealthy guy who used his fortune to be a "city father" (a dead concept, these days?) and give patronage to a small network of architects and urban planners. These sorts of things give a city identifiable clusters of coherent soul and generally work to increase the cohesiveness of visual language within neighborhoods and blocks (very important for establishing a city's identity and fraternal sensibilities that flow out from that)

I think the idea was to make the dorm rooms Ruinous and the common areas appealing in order to encourage students to mingle or Synergize. But in practice people would probably just do exactly what they do now but in Worse Rooms

College students need a lot of sunlight and privacy to really flourish. Not much space needed but some amount of dignity in the space they do have allotted is vital

A small Costco being built in the hall is pretty clever and probably a smart and profitable thing to give students walking access to

There are some good ideas there but actual "living space" is treated like an afterthought (and this is characteristic of the spirit of this era)

The resolution on the actual proposal makes it too hard to tell what the metric of reference is for sizes but this is some of the concept art for the living area

https://architexturez.net/file/30xp-munger-render-02-jumbo-jpg

It looks like there are two showers per cluster of 8 dorms and rooms aren't much bigger than the space in a cubicle

The areas that aren't domiciles don't look too bad

The actual dorm arrangements are worse than Cabrini Green though
