My firm did this with someone who was having personality conflicts pretty early on with people. Firm looked into CRM and compared with clock in/clock out and terminated. The time theft was the justification for the firing. |

I can confirm this isn't abnormal unfortunately. We have used it to justify firing in the past and it's helpful in that regard but if someone is doing what she was, we probably wouldn't catch on if she was otherwise keeping up with her job duties. |

But there are many more customer/client-facing roles that mostly involve just email, slack / skype / etc., updating spreadsheets, and meetings. Same goes for some of the people managing the engineers/developers doing the actual work (eg. project managers). It's these people who often barely work. THESE ARE YOUR EMAIL GIRLS. |
