I watched some old episodes of "Dragnet" from the late sixties and they're about hippies stealing clothes, kids smoking at school, and people breaking into liquor stores. Everyone is well dressed, the police wear suits and ties, and there isn't a tattoo in sight. Even the "bad guys" look respectable.
Compare that to the hellscape we find ourselves in today. Tents, trash, graffiti, and deranged homeless almost everywhere. What a difference a few decades can make.

this is true, although standards and practices back then was infinitely stricter
it's not like they didn't have stuff like Starkweather, Whitman, Speck, or Manson
